DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY– It’s been more than a century since the Suraci brothers moved from Italy to America, hoping to achieve the American dream. They founded their company, Avanti Cigars, in New York… but it wasn’t long before they wound up in the Keystone State.
Avanti has been in Northeastern Pennsylvania since 1929. These days, their factory can be found in Dunmore. Employees say that the cigar giant is one of only two companies in the world that uses 100% Kentucky tobacco. When it comes down to it- despite Avanti’s Italian inspiration- it’s an American product, start to finish.
The unique, Tuscano-style cigars can be found in shops all over the country, and have attracted quite the range of customers. In fact, Petri Cigars, which are under the Avanti umbrella, were Clint Eastwood’s smoke of choice while he was filming movies in Europe.
