LACKAWANNA COUNTY One man is dead after a crash this afternoon in Lackawanna County.

The wreck involved a vehicle and transit van — and it kept a busy road in the mid valley closed for hours.   Eyewitness News Reporter Eric Deabill was on the scene shortly after the crash  along Business Route 6 in Eynon Thursday afternoon.

Police, along with the Lackawanna County Coroners Office and the District Attorneys Office were investigating a deadly two vehicle crash involving a car and a transit van.

The Archbald police chief says both vehicles were on Business Route 6 when they collided.

Chief Tim Trently of the Archbald Police Department said “It looks like they were going in opposite directions and the van was probably going to make a turn”   Trently says he believes into the shopping center.

The wreck happened at the entrance to the Big Lots shopping center.

The collision was so violent, the van was actually pushed off the road itself.

Eyewitnesses say they heard a loud boom.

The driver of the van was the only person on board at the time.

Three people were in the car. The man who died was a 63 year old front seat passenger.

A state police reconstruction unit responded to the scene to take photographs and measurements.

“We’ll look at some road markings and any type of evidence we can find to try and see what actually did occur here”  added Chief Trently

Because this is a busy shopping area, police are hoping to get help to find out exactly what happened.

“We will be checking cameras to see if they can help us out. Obviously, if there’s anybody out there that witnessed the incident and would like to come forward, they can certainly call the Archbald Police Department” Said Chief Trently
