DICKSON CITY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – A white Toyota banged up and dozens of state and local police cars crowd Main Street in Dickson City. The scene was the result of a high speed chase that started in Scranton.
“The next thing you know we see the cops come flying, they turn down this street and he ends up hitting that pole and then the cops come and they end up doing the pit maneuver and actually taking him out,” said Joe Enslin.
State Police told Eyewitness News that pursuit went along 81 and through communities in both Luzerne and Lackawanna County before ending. One woman saw the chase when she was in Dunmore.
“I didn’t know if the person was just speeding. Once we saw all the cars, obviously not. We just had no idea what was going on,” said Mariah.
The driver was arrested.
State police also tell us officers shot at the car tires to try and stop the driver who is now in custody.
No one was injured in the incident but multiple state police vehicles experienced damage from the pursuit.
“They did a good job. Taking it out quickly. They went on a little high speed chase but they can’t just quickly react to it because they have to make sure all of us are ok but when they had the opportunity they took him out and did their job,” said Enslin.
During the chase, the suspect dropped off a passenger who is now also in custody but not under arrest.
State Police at Dunmore are handling this ongoing investigation.
