SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – When the news broke that Joe Biden won the 2020 general election, everybody here in Scranton came right here to his childhood home.

“Because Biden won,” said Lauren Ryan, Biden Supporter.

“I’m here because this is such a monumental moment in history,” said Chris Connonly, Biden Supporter.

A moment in history the people of Scranton will never forget, including longtime Biden friend and former City Mayor Jimmy Connors.

“We’re proud because one of ours made it. One of ours made it to the top. And he didn’t forget us. He came home. He was here this week, he wasn’t going to go to Delaware ’til he came here,” said Jimmy Connors, Former Scranton Mayor.

Current Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti saying the victory is proof anything is possible.

“Here in the city of Scranton, I think it shows every kid who’s from here, every kid in school, my daughter, that you can be anybody you want to be and it can start right here in Scranton,” said Cognetti.

Which is why everyone took to the streets in front of Biden’s childhood home on North Washington Avenue.

Screaming, honking and hugging.

“The energy is alive, it is so passionate, it is so real. It’s just insane how everyone is just talking to each other, connecting with one another. The energy right now is just insane,” said Mardan Daurilas, Scranton native.

From the people we’ve talked to, they say if they could describe Scranton right now, it would be “unity.”
