HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Three people are in custody after a police pursuit involving a stolen car on Tuesday afternoon, Hazleton police say.
The pursuit began in Fairview Township and ended on Graham Avenue in Hanover Township. Police say all the people in the vehicle fled on foot and into a nearby residence.
Police surrounded the home the suspects ran into at 15 Graham Avenue for almost two hours, blocking off most of Graham Avenue.
The nearby Hanover Area Memorial Elementary School was on lockdown for a period of time during the ongoing incident just a few blocks away.
Hanover Township, Fairview Township, Wilkes-Barre City Police and state troopers were on scene. Some officers in tactical gear were seen going in and out of the home.
Around 3:30 p.m. officers took two suspects into custody. Half an hour later, officers handcuffed a third man at the home and took him into custody as well.
Neighbors say this is the second time their neighborhood has been locked down due to an incident at the home in just a couple months.
“I know some neighbors have been reporting suspicious activity over there for months now. To prove it again is another thing but today I was on my way home and I saw everybody on my lawn and all these police cars and I immediately thought ‘oh my neighbors’,” neighbor Bonnie Mattick said.
