EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A wanted man is now behind bars.

According to the United States Marshal Martin J. Pane, Jason Lajoie was arrested in Monticello, New York around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Lajoie had been on the run after escaping from a transport vehicle off Interstate 84 in Pike County, Pennsylvania near the New Jersey/New York border.

Officials stated on October 24th say Lajoie was furloughed for 12 hours to attend a funeral in Rhode Island and was being transported by a family friend.

Police say at 9:00 p.m. the two were returning to Pennsylvania when Lajoie fled from his friend. The friend contacted authorities and the U.S. Marshals issued an arrest warrant charging Lajoie with escape.

Lajoie was found in a hotel and taken into custody without incident by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.
