SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Flames broke out in a home at 2236 Brown Avenue in Scranton after 4 p.m. Sunday.

The smokey blaze did heavy damage to the rear of the home. That is also where it may have started. A second alarm was called in. One man got out safely. There are no injuries.

Chief Al Lucas tells Eyewitness News at least two people were inside at the time of the fire. The tenant on the second floor was able to make it out, however the person on the third floor had to be rescued. That person had no injuries.

Dozens of firefighters have been fighting the fire for the past few hours. At least an additional 23 firefighters were called to the scene in the past hour.

Crews are expected to be on the scene for at least a couple more hours which means Brown Avenue will remain closed.
