LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they are investigating a crash that happened involving a suspect who fled the scene of a stabbing in Wilkes-Barre that occurred Thursday afternoon.
According to Wilkes-Barre City Police, the suspect stabbed a woman in the parking lot of the Save A Lot in Wilkes-Barre and left her children unattended as she stole the victim’s car.
Police say the suspect fled with the victim’s car and headed north, at one point the chase was called off due to “erratic driving.”
Officers say they continued north and saw that the suspect had crashed the car near the McDonald’s on River Street in Plains Township.
Before the crash, eyewitnesses reported seeing a car traveling north on River Street at a high rate of speed with police in pursuit near the Luzerne County Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene of the crash.
The stabbing victim was taken to the hospital, their condition is unknown at this time.
The scenes were both secured and the crash was processed by Plains Township Police.
