WEST PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) The Pennsylvania primary is tomorrow and dozens of local offices are up for grabs.
In one Luzerne County Community, known for its passion for politics, there is something taking place that is rarely seen during a political campaign.. The I-Team’s Andy Mehalshick has the story.
They call themselves “The New Vision for the Garden Village”. Five candidates running for West Pittston council comprised of Democrats and Republicans—longtime political types and newcomers.
They have one goal – take control of the West Pittston Borough Council.
Eyewitness News caught up with them as they campaigned door to door on Delaware Avenue Monday afternoon..
“In the past party politics slowed the development of this town. Our goal is to change that.” Said Brad Chikowski (D) Candidate for West Pittston Council.
Patrick Gilligan is a Republican. This is his first venture into politics. He has one main goal..
“The safety of my children and not only of my children but the safety of all residents in the town.” Said Gilligan
Republican Barry Hosier is a political veteran. He is currently on the council but caims that political game playing in the past has slowed progress in the borough.
“This time we went to a bipartisan way of thinking because there were not that many people who are agressive enough to come and run for public office.” Said Hosier.
