(WBRE/WYOU-TV) A small non-profit that’s made a big difference in one community is taking steps to stop a potential financial bleed.
The Berwick United Way is in the process of merging with the much larger United Way of Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre.
In recent years, Berwick has seen a decline in donations.
Officials say if the merger goes through job roles would be re-organized in an effort to save administrative costs money that would go back into the community.
The president and CEO of the United Way of Wyoming Valley, Bill Jones, says all money raised in Berwick would stay in Berwick.
“The corporation will go away…But the United Way presence there, our goal is to make it stronger than ever.. ” said Bill Jones.
“I think we are being reactive, sooner rather than later. ” noted Dave Witchey, Treasurer, Berwick Area United Way.
Leaders are still ironing out how to merge their administrations.
If everything goes smoothly, the merger could take place as early as next month.
