World War II Veteran gives away free American flags

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- About 50 free flags given out today for free, thanks to one of our area’s biggest advocates for the American flag.

World War II Veteran Jim Walsh raised money in recent years to purchase 300 flags for the city to display. With the money left over, he decided to buy 50 more flags to give away.

He began giving them away at 11:00 this morning to anyone who will display the flags proudly.

“The flag expresses everything that’s good in our nation and it’s history,” says Jim Walsh, a former soldier. “It’s not just an emblem or a piece of cloth. It means something and we have to show the utmost respect for it.”

Walsh was giving away the flags with his son, who is a marine.
