Wilkes-Barre Police Officer Facing Charges of Rape and Assault

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) A Wilkes-Barre Police Officer is under arrest and facing charges of rape and sexually assaulting four women while on duty.

     According to State Police, Robert Mathew Collins was arrested late Tuesday afternoon after a lengthy investigation into misconduct.

      Collins is facing charges Rape, Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, and Intimidation of Witnesses among other charges.

        According to court documents, there are four victims and the incidents happened over a 16 month period from August 2013 through December 2014.

  The case is being investigated by State Police and the FBI

   Collins was taken to PSP Wyoming for arraignment.

According to Wilkes-Barre Chief Joe Coffay that Collins has been suspended with pay.  He said the department will also do its own internal investigation.
