Widespread flooding reported across Central and NE Pennsylvania Monday

TREMONT, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Widespread flooding was reported across the region Monday morning as summer storms continued to pound the region.

As of 9:15 Monday morning the communities of Port Carbon, Pine Grove, Tremont, Pottsville, Frackville, Gilberton, Tower City, St. Clair, Frailey Township, Porter Township and the surrounding areas are all threatened. Residents in several low lying areas have already been evacuated to higher ground.

As of 12:30pm the Red Cross is currently staffing two evacuation centers in Schuylkill County. One is operating at the Tremont Fire Company and the second is located at Pottsville Middle School. Additional locally run centers are open at St. Stephens Church in Port Carbon, Schuylkill Haven High School and the Frackville Borough Building. A center that had been open at Pine Grove High School is in the process of closing.

In Tremont, firefighters conducted several water rescues of people trapped by the overflowing Swatara Creek.

Flooding has also been reported in Sullivan, Northumberland and Columbia counties.

Several water rescues were reported in Delaware Township in Northumberland County around four o’clock Monday morning including people and their pets.

Dunmore, PA –  Motorists in Northeastern Pennsylvania are advised several roads are impacted in the area due to flooding. The following roads are currently closed as of 9:15 PM
 
Lackawanna County 
 
SR 6: Archbald Police Department is reporting that RT 6 in Eynon is closed in the westbound lanes.
 
I-81 North from Exit 180 (Moosic ) to Exit 184 (River St) there is slow moving traffic due to water flowing over the roadway along with debris.
 
The Central Scranton Expressway is open.  Motorists should use caution when traveling in the area due to rocks and debris on the roadway.
 
Now Open SR 3001 (Newton-Ransom Bld.) is closed in both directions from the intersection of Milwaukee Rd in Ransom to the intersection of Cherry Hill Dr in Ransom
 
SR 3005 (Main St/ River Rd) is closed in both directions from the intersection of the Luzerne County Line to the intersection of the Wyoming county line.
 
SR 4011 Old State Road in Glenburn is closed.
 
Luzerne County
 
SR  424 East from the intersection of Poplar St in Hazleton to the end of PA 434.
 
SR  424 West from the intersection of 93 in Hazle Township to the intersection of Poplar St in Hazleton.
 
SR  924 from Schuylkill County  to intersection of Chestnut Hill Dr, Hazle Twp., Luzerne County
 
SR  2019 (Columbus Ave/Oak St/Tedrick St) from the intersection of Sunrise Dr in Pittston Twp. to the intersection of Brown St in Pittston Twp.
 
SR  2024 (Main ST/Maffett St.) from the intersection of Trailer Park Rd to the intersection of Latona Trucking in Jenkins Twp.
 
Now Open SR  2032 (Parsonage St/Foot Ave) from the intersection of Center St to the intersection of New St. in Hughestown.
 
SR  2033 (Coxton RD) from the intersection of Main St in Duryea to the intersection of the Lackawanna County Line in Duryea
 
SR  4004 (W Butler ST/Shickshinney Valley RD) from the Columbia County Line to the intersection  of Saw Mill Rd in Salem Twp.
 
Wayne County
 
SR 4014 (Maple Grove Rd/Winterdale Rd) is closed in both directions from the intersection of Fairmount Rd/Scott Center Rd to the intersection of Roberts Rd in Scott Twp.
 
SR 4043 (Sherman Rd) is closed in both directions due to a slide at the intersection of Scott Center Rd in Scott Twp.
