(WBRE/WYOU-TV) A Wayne County woman accused of leaving her deceased mother at a Honesdale Bed and Breakfast was sentenced today.

The Wayne County District Attorney sentenced Moria Ann Richey, 52, to 60 days to 18 months in the Wayne County Correctional Facility.

Richey pleaded guilty in March to counts of theft and abuse of a corpse after leaving her deceased mother in a bed for several weeks or even months.

Richey, hid the death of her mother from her landlord for several months prior to the discovery of Patricia Richey’s decaying body in June 2017.

Richey was scheduled to be sentenced on May 3, 2018. That’s when she checked into a Scranton hospital. A warrant was issued for her arrest. She was later arrested on May 3, 2018, and returned to Wayne County for her Sentencing Hearing.

“This is a very unusual and disturbing case. Ultimately it is a very sad case. Obviously, the Defendant in this case is a disturbed individual with mental health issues. I believe the sentence imposed by Senior Judge Hamill was appropriate given the Defendant’s mental health issues,” said District Attorney Robinson.
