Watch Your Step- Man Falls Through Sidewalk Grate

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) A close call in Wilkes-Barre as a man using a walker falls through a city sidewalk utility grate.
Our Eyewitness News crews got to the scene on Franklin and Market Streets just moments after the man was rescued.
According to DPW  Crews the grate was covered, but they believe a rusty screw was to blame for the cover collapsing beneath the man.

The owner of Sartorio and Son Barber shop  along with one of his customers jumped into action to rescue the man.

“So I ran over and I took the grate off his hip and I saw his walker over here on the side  so I tried to pull him up and I couldn’t do it, so my next customer was coming up, Kenny, and we helped him up. but that grate is loose and the way we figure it, is that his walker must have pushed the grate and he stepped on it and went right down into it. there were wires under his feet and everything, he just didn’t get all the way in.  Said Peter Sartorio.
First responders say they victim did not want medical attention and after he was rescued continued on his way.
DPW crews put a barrier on top of the grate
