Volunteers Send Care Packages to Troops

News
Brodheadsville, Monroe County – Patricia Alexander had a lot of extra work to do at the
Brodheadsville Post Office Wednesday. The Postal Clerk smiled, “It’s good
work. It’s good work.”

She processed and stamped more than 60 boxes filled with gifts for military members serving
overseas.  “I stamp the love all day long. I want them to know that we love them, we appreciate them and we will go out of our way for them,” she said.

The boxes were filled with everything from basic necessities like soap to treats
like candy. A volunteer group called Operation Touch of Home has been
collecting and sending items for more than ten years. Karl Leiner is the
President. He said, “I say I’d love to be out of a job ’cause if I’m out
of a job as President of Operation Touch of Home, that means they’re all
home.”

Leiner served in the Marines and he said he knows how it feels to get a package from
home. He recalled, “It was nice ’cause it was just that little bit of
something you missed.”

Now Leiner wants to make sure all of the troops from our area can enjoy a little
touch of home. He said, “It’s not over until they’re all home.” Alexander
added, “‘Cause it’s for the people who keep us alive, helping us to stay
alive, touch of home to the veterans. I love it.”
