MOUNT AIRY, POCONOS (WNBRE/WYOU) –Large crowds wrapped around the entryway for the Mount Airy Casino reopening, Monday afternoon.

“Oh I’m not surprised. People like they’re gambling. I do too. You try to space it out but you still do it,” Susan Cappola of New Jersey said.

Mount Airy closed its doors to the public over 100 days ago. Glenn Cademartori, Vice President of marketing at Mount Airy, says they’re excited to be back.

“We’ve really taken the time during that shutdown to clean and sanitize the property from top to bottom. We’re as clean as we were the day we opened 13 years ago,” Cademartori said.

He says the casino is usually busy year round, but they see a slightly higher attendance during the summer.

“It couldn’t have been a better time to finally come into green and get the green light to open. We’re just very excited to have everyone back here in Mount Airy,” Cademartori said.

During Mount Airy’s time closed, many Covid-19 precautions were put in place. “Social distancing signage, stantioning for line cueing, hand sanitizing stations thoughout the property…probably 100 new stations,” Cademartori said.

Every other slot machine has been turned off, and every other chair at the slot machines and table games have been removed. Shields have been placed between machines.

While Mount Airy’s hotel, spa and casino all reopened on Monday, there are a few areas that still remain closed. Those areas include the Sportsbook and poker area.

“Not a lot of sports have started up right now so there really isn’t much for our guests to bet on from the sports perspective. From the poker standpoint, that’s being addressed in the state of Pennsylvania right now to make sure we have all the protocols in place to reopen poker at the appropriate time,” Cademartori said.

Cademartori says the Sportsbook will reopen when the professional leagues resume.
