(WBRE/WYOU-TV) It’s the nation’s deadliest transportation incident in nearly a decade. And while New York State Police and the National Transportation Safety Board are trying to figure out how the limo crash that killed 20 people on Saturday happened, new information has been released that suggests this might have been a tragedy that could have been avoided.
The 2001 Ford Excursion limousine that crashed had failed an inspection by the New York State DMV last month and was not supposed to be on the road. Further complicating the situation, the driver of the vehicle did not have the appropriate driver’s license to be operating that vehicle and therefore should not have been behind the wheel.
New York state is seeking a cease and desist order against Prestige Limo to stop them from operating until the investigation is complete.
