UPDATE: Waiting on a Verdict: Jury Deliberates Barbara Rogers Case

News

UPDATE: Barbara Rogers has been found guilty of third-degree murder.

(WBRE/WYOU-TV)     A jury in Monroe County is deciding the fate of a woman who shot and killed her boyfriend in what prosecutors call cult-connected murder.

Eyewitness News Reporter Brianna Strunk has followed this case from the beginning.

The jury started deliberating around 12:45 this afternoon. At 3:15 they asked the judge to explain the difference between first and third-degree murder. They are still deliberating.

In July 2017 Barbara Rogers called 911 to report she killed her boyfriend 32-year-old Steven Mineo. When investigators arrived at the couple’s Coolbaugh Township home they determined Mineo was shot in the forehead at close range. Rogers blamed the death on an online alien cult which she and Mineo belonged to.

Rogers says the cult turned on her calling her a witch and because of that Mineo asked her to kill him.

Back in 2017,  Eyewitness News spoke with the cult leader Sherry Shriner.

She said Mineo angrily left the ministry once members ousted Rogers. Shriner claims she tried to warn the victim that Rogers was dangerous.
