TAYLOR, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One man was injured after a home exploded in Lackawanna County.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Union Street in Taylor.
Firefighters told Eyewitness News they rescued a man who was trapped in the rubble. He suffered burns and was flown to a hospital, but he was responsive on the scene.
The explosion shattered windows and left broken glass scattered around the road. People who live nearby said the blast shook the entire neighborhood.
“We were sitting at home watching the Eagles game and it sounded like something ran into the house, that big of an explosion,” said Bob Mattioli. “We could see the one house on the next block, half of it was gone!”
Neighbors were evacuated from their homes, and officials set up two evacuation centers in Taylor. Residents are expected to return to their homes Thursday.
Power was shut off for hours as a precaution, but was restored around 7:00am.
A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the explosion.
