PITTSTON CITY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A member of President Joe Biden’s cabinet is in northeastern Pennsylvania on Friday.
Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo was in Pittston Friday afternoon. She was invited to the city by Congressman Matt Cartwright.
Secretary Raimondo came to talk about small business development, revitalization, and of course, the economy.
Secretary Raimondo toured Downtown Pittston with Congressman Matt Cartwright and Pittston Mayor Mike Lombardo. Pittston has been a leader in small business development and downtown revitalization.
The secretary met with business owners and talked about how the federal government might be able to lend a helping hand moving forward.
Raimondo then took part in a round table talk discussion at the Pittston Memorial Library. Business leaders from around the region, including numerous presidents of regional chambers of commerce, took part in the roundtable discussions.
“Well, I saw a community that is working together to create jobs and make sure that everybody here has an opportunity, but also I what I saw was all the work that congressman cartwright does to bring funds to this community are in action,” said Raimondo.

“Well, I think it was a great opportunity for us to communicate with some leaders in Washington about what we need at the local level and to be honest with you. As a local official, we know where we want to go but we need assistance,” said Lombardo.
Raimondo says she will take the information back to Washington and it will be used to help formulate policies that can better help communities, not only here in northeastern Pennsylvania but also across the country.
