We told you that Nativity BVM High School band director, Dale Schimpf was arrested in late February for having a sexual relationship with a minor.
Now we have learned that Schimpf wasn’t the only adult.
3 more men have now been arrested.
“You don’t know who is on the other end of that profile that you are communicating with. In this case it was a 13 year old boy,” Chief Henry Woods of Tamaqua Police Department said.
59-year old Charles Joy of Port Carbon along with 36 year old Brad Murphy and 28 year old Matthew Delgado both of Tamaqua were all arrested for having sexual relationships with a minor. They all face several charges including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of someone less than 16 years old.
All the men met the boy on the dating app, Grindr. Chief Woods say at least 2 of the men believed that the boy was older because the boy claimed to be 30 years old in his profile.
“You can’t. Anybody can go on any of these apps or even Facebook and put a fictitious date of birth and make yourself 35, 18 or whatever and in reality you’re either younger or older,” Woods said.
that’s why chief woods says it is so important for parents to know what kids are doing on their phones.
He recommends parents check their screens, know the apps that they have and even change the setting to block apps that you don’t want your child to have.
“If they are using an app like that, i think any parent would want to be aware of that so that they can stop them from doing it,” Woods said.
The chief says are focused on getting the boy help with the sexual assault resource and counseling center.
Murphy, Joy, and Delgado face hearings set for next month.
