TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) Getting behind one of these three wheeled vehicles. Just got a little bit easier.
Senate bill 11-08 will make clearer the distinction between these newly developed three-wheeled vehicles with two forward wheels and the more recognizable three-wheeled, trike-style motorcycles.
“It rides like a regular vehicle and it’s sporty.”
State Senator Mario Scavello sponsored the bill that will define these vehicles as an auto cycle and register and title them by creating a special designation.
It would allow individuals wishing to operate an auto cycle to be permitted to do so with a regular driver’s license.
“The surrounding states, if you have a motor vehicle license, you can ride this in surrounding states. In Pennsylvania, the way it was, you needed a motorcycle license.”
“I definitely think it’s going to open it up to a more wide variety of people being able to drive it.” said Blake Mirkin of Pocono Motorsport
“Aside from that change from your car into this it should be fairly easy. I mean turn signal, steering wheel, everything is just like it is in your vehicle.”
Drivers of other two wheeled and three wheeled trike-style motorcycles where the driver straddles the vehicle would still need a motorcycle license.
The bill passed through both the house and senate unanimously.
Governor Wolf is expected to sign the bill into law.
