WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Wilkes-Barre woman was shot dead Sunday morning and the man accused of killing her has been taken into custody according to police.
Police say they received reports of a possible gunshot victim in the 40 block of Darling Street in Wilkes-Barre just before 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
Investigators said first responders arrived on the scene and found Carla Pina unresponsive in the home. Pina was transported to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Officers say Pina was arguing with Natanihel San Martin, from Wilkes-Barre, when he fired a shot in the bedroom his three-year-old child was sleeping in.
Officials say Pina went into the room to check on the child, and “eventually” other people in the home heard another gunshot.
According to the affidavit, San Martin emerged from the room and told the other people in the home he shot Pina. San Martin later told police he had been drinking prior and got shot her due to a misunderstanding.
San Martin has been taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for arraignment. He is facing one count of homicide, endangering the welfare of a child, and two counts of recklessly endangering another person. He is being held without bail.
The Luzerne County Coroner tells Eyewitness News an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
San Martin’s next court date is February 22.
