In a 5-4 vote, the U.S Supreme Court ruled that same sex marriage is legal and should be recognized in all 50 states.

The decision will require all states to offer full marriage benefits to same sex couples, overturning a previous ruling that allowed individual states to make their own decision.

There are still 13 states that do not recognize same sex marriage and while there is no date when this announcement will go into effect, those states will need to eventually change their rules to conform with the new constitutional law.
