SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – PennDOT has closed a portion of the Scranton Expressway Monday due to a subsidence.

Officials say crews spent part of the weekend examing a sink hole between Main Avenue and Keyser Avenue trying to determine the cause of the collapse.

They dug to about 16-feet, but didn’t find the cause. They say the crews did not encounter a mine shaft.

Monday crews will be adding fill to the hole, then will cover the repair.

Traffic will be delayed through much of the day, there’s no estimate when the work will be complted.
