Students create care packages for active military and veterans

News

ASHLAND, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- Elementary school students spent part of their school day giving back to others.

Kids at North Schuylkill Elementary School lined up to assemble care packages for active military members and vets in local veteran hospitals.

Each student got to pick out a special blanket, pajama set, and a set of toiletries for the packages. Some veterans were also in the crowd.

“I think it means a lot when they get a package, especially if you’re stranded out of the country during the holidays,” says veteran Doug Demsko. “It’s important to get a package from people at home, letting them know that they care about what you’re doing.”

More than 1,100 boxes were made up and shipped of to those who are serving and have served our country.
