STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new restaurant in downtown Stroudsburg is taking the lead in an effort to clean up the streets.
308 Burger Company has only been open for two months but it’s already teaming up with other small businesses to better the community.
Located in the heart of Stroudsburg on Main Street, 308 Burger Company is already giving back to the community planning a litter clean-up for downtown.
The idea sparked after a nearby restaurant posted photos of trash in the street on social media.
“It was kind of incredible actually you know everyone that wanted to give back. We had like 50 comments within 20 minutes. About 10 to 12 different small business owners wanted to come out, wear all their gear, and kind of help us clean the streets a little bit,” stated Zach Englehardt, co-owner of 308 Burger Company.
Englehardt says the support of its customers and other business owners is humbling.
“It makes us want to give back even more. It’s not just us, it’s not just Yard of Ale, it’s everybody coming together that has a small business in Stroudsburg so it’s really neat and it’s kind of heartwarming actually as well,” explained Englehardt.
Barry Lynch, the owner of Newberry’s Yard of Ale posted the photos of the trash. He noticed an uptick in litter last year.
“It’s not a finger-pointing thing. I think it’s an issue I’d like to know as a business owner, paying my taxes every year, as to how often they’re going to sweep the streets. Is it every day on Main Street?” stated Lynch.
We reached out to the borough’s Public Works Manager Brian Ace. He tells Eyewitness News Main Street is cleaned by a street sweeper each day at 5 a.m. Monday through Friday weather permitting and as long as it’s above 32 degrees.
They are limited to a one-hour time period due to street parking opening up at 6 a.m. When it comes to the sidewalks Ace says the business owners are responsible for picking up trash.
Lynch tells Eyewitness News he’s glad to see business owners pitching in and making an effort to clean up together. He adds that’s what downtown needs.
“I’m a promoter of Main Street, I’m a promoter of Stroudsburg, I think we have a beautiful, natural town and people love coming here, but we want them to continue coming here and when we have a clean, bright town, they will come back,” explained Lynch.
308 Burger Company’s clean-up event will take place this Sunday on Main Street. The clean-up Main Street event is planned for this Sunday to help out the community. Multiple small businesses are going to attend.
