EAST SIDE, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Election Day took a turn in Carbon County when storm damage affected one of the polling locations.

Registered voters who are part of the East Side Borough in Carbon County spent their Tuesday morning voting in the borough building in White Haven. However, when the thunderstorms rolled through on Tuesday afternoon, two poles came down on the building.

In the process, volunteers had to move the polling place to Lehigh Gorge Campground, which is right down the road.

The mayor of East Side said the storm damage made Election Day a hassle, but fortunately, there was still a high outcome of voters.

“It was pretty scary when the storm came through, probably about 70 mile per hour winds took the pole down right outside the borough building where we were and then the neighbors called and said there was a couple of trees and a pole down up on one of the streets in East Side,” Mayor Colleen Donlin said.

White Haven and Dennison Township fire departments came to help with the storm damage.
