Steamtown Health Fair Set for Saturday

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) Preserving health and having fun are two goals of the seventh annual “Steamtown Health Fair.”
    Eyewitness News Reporter Lauren Hensley gives us a preview of this free event.
Getting into med school is no easy task. 
    Just ask Geisinger Commonwealth Medical School, students. But for these students, the challenge is worth the reward.
 
“I wanted to go into a field where I could provide care for people and help them to live well”.Said C.C. Strauch, Second Year Medical Student 
    Wellness and health — the focus of the free Steamtown Health Fair. 
    The event is hosted by students and the Scranton Primary Health Care Center. 
 
“The main thing is that people don’t realize what resources we have and just coming here and understanding that all these are accessible.” Said Shijo Benjamin, Second Year Medical Student, 
    Blood pressure screenings, diabetes management, and hands-on demonstrations- the outreach doesn’t stop there.
 
    10 languages will be spoken for non-native English speakers.
 
“We do have interpreters featuring help from our student clubs, ” said CC Strauch. 
    Breaking down barriers… To a healthier, happier you! 
 
“I think they can take charge of their own health and take a step forward in that direction ” added Paula Keenan, Chief Nursing Officer
 
 
“They should come out and have fun with the activities, to learn more about health and to explore what options they have here in Scranton” said Shinjo Benjamin.
