Phone Scam Targets Latino Community in Hazleton _7460290145256099258

(WBRE/WYOU-TV) Recently, many law enforcement agencies have received calls from citizens reporting that they have been contacted by individual(s) claiming to be representatives from the Internal Revenue Service, Drug Enforcement Agency, or local utility companies demanding money for back taxes, fines, or fees for service.

These individuals may also use these calls to obtain the victim’s personal information. In many cases, the victims are threatened with arrest, deportation, or suspension of services if they refuse to pay.

These calls are fraudulent and one of the newest tactics employed by phone scammers to obtain money and personal information from victims.

If you believe you have been a victim of this type of crime, please contact your local law enforcement agency to report the incident.
