The Abington Heights boys basketball team has captured its first ever PIAA state championship with a 67-55 win over Mars Area in the Class 5A title game! The Comets had a state playoff run that was defined by close calls and clutch performances. A one-point win over Chester in the round of 16 was followed by a thrilling overtime win over Bonner-Prendergast in the semifinals.
Buoyed by the efforts of team leaders George Tinsley and Jackson Danzig, Abington Heights was able to hold off Mars and its best player, Robby Carmody, who will be playing at Notre Dame after high school. We’ll have full coverage on future editions of Eyewitness News.
