(WBRE/WYOU-TV) Add Mohegan Sun Pocono to list of casinos to offer sports betting.
On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board approved the license for Mohegan Sun.
Anthony Carlucci, President, and CEO of Mohegan Sun Pocono told Eyewitness News, “Mohegan Sun Pocono’s hope is to have the new sportsbook launch by early fall. The brick and mortar site will likely go live prior to an online product”.
Carlucci told us the new Sports Betting area will be located near the main entrance of Mohegan Sun Pocono near Molly O’Shea’s Irish Pub & Restaurant.
When asked how will it enhance the casino experience? Carlucci told Eyewitness News, “Sports gaming is a unique, fun and evolving industry that will certainly contribute to a broader casino audience. With the help of our interactive gaming partner, Kindred Group PLC, Mohegan Sun Pocono will launch an impressive sports gaming product featuring all major sports as well as golf, tennis, Ultimate Fighting Championship, rugby, NASCAR, MLS, Premier League Soccer and more. The plan is to potentially have simulcast betting opportunities as well – inside Molly O’Shea’s for example – to be able to give guests an atmosphere where they can eat and enjoy the games”.
He added that they project around a dozen job opportunities directly associated with the sportsbook.
In recent months several restaurants in the food court have left. Wolfgang Puck, Ben and Jerry’s – are no longer part of the casino. Eyewitness News inquired about what news restaurants will fill the food court.
Carlucci told us a restaurant addition is on the near horizon, with more information to come soon.
