(WBRE/WYOU-TV) Nearly a dozen children with disabilities are receiving a special gift that will take them places they otherwise wouldn’t go on their own.
Eyewitness News Morning Anchor Kelly Byrne has more.
Does it go fast? Yes. Does it go super-fast? Yeah! Oh yes he does!”
17 year old Logan Czyzycki has a new set of wheels.
“This is the first time he’s actually riding and peddling a bike independently,” Said Mary Beth Czyzycki, Swoyersville.
His customized, adaptive bike was donated by Variety the Children’s Charity through the “My Bike Program.”
“This is amazing. This truly is amazing. To have a company come in and sponsor all these bikes for these children, it’s just amazing. A lot of people take the gift of riding a bike for granted. And to have these day happen for Logan, he’s now 17, and instead of riding in a car, he’s driving his bike,” Said Mary Beth.
Local organizations — including the intermediate unit and organized labor brought the bikes to children with disabilities in Luzerne and Wyoming Counties.
And on Thursday, Logan got to ride his very own bike, by himself, for the first time in a bike parade through the Wyoming Valley West Stadium.
“We’re helping ten kids today, we’re looking for the next 100 kids. The bikes are expensive. They’re 18-hundred dollars so we have to keep raising the funds,” Said Charles Lavallee, Organizer
All ten recipients — overwhelmed with excitement.
“When we did the bike fitting, she was terrified to get on. And now we can’t get her off of it,” Said Greg Stauffer, Father of Rowyn.
“To have this blessing from this community, coming out and helping us out, it’s a blessing for all, not for one, but for all,” Said Thomas Cyzyzycki, Swoyersville.
For Logan independently riding a bike wasn’t possible before.
But now, he feels the need for speed!
“Do you want to go peddle more or no? Yeah!” Said Logan laughing!
