“Skate With a Cop” Held in Wilkes-Barre

News

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY – (WBRE/WYOU) An event in Luzerne County gave people the chance to meet local and state police officers.
“Skate with a Cop” was held tonight at Skateaway on Blackman Street in Wilkes-Barre.
Admission was just $2 and another $2 for skate rentals.
Law enforcement officers and their families got in for free!
The event gave people the opportunity to skate, meet, and greet with police and K9 officers.
Proceeds from “Skate with a Cop” go toward purchasing police shields.

“We originally started this hoping to provide one shield to one department. We’re well over 50 shields now, and pretty much most of Luzerne County Police Departments will all be going home tonight with multiple shields,” said event coordinator, Brian Feist.

“Its extremely important, especially now-a-days, for the people to see maybe a different side of the police…you know maybe a more human side of the police,” said Patrolman Kirk Merchel of the Wilkes-Barre Police Department.

The shields were given away to law enforcement officers at tonight’s event in Luzerne County.
