Shawnee Mountain Ski Resort named in lawsuit

SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Shawnee Mountain Ski Area is named in a civil lawsuit filed by the family of a teen who died at the resort.

The lawsuit accuses Shawnee Mountain, the private school she attended, and her ski coach of negligence and recklessness.

Juliette Dajani, 15, was skiing down an advanced Black Diamond Trail when she lost control and slammed into PVC Pipes enclosing metal rods in January 2017.

The lawsuit alleges Blair Academy and the coach instructed the girl to ski on a team even though she had limited experience and inappropriate equipment. It also alleges that Shawnee Mountain failed to protect skiiers from dangerous conditions around snow making equipment.
