Several displaced after Carbon County fire

PALMERTON, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – The Red Cross is helping nine people displaced by a fire that ripped through a Carbon County apartment building on Sunday.

The fire broke out Sunday afternoon on Mauch Chunk Road in Palmerton. Officials say all of the residents were able to escape safely.

The building is the site of the former Cindy’s Rusty Nail Tavern. Officials say the building will likely have to be demolished.

A state police fire marshal is investigating the fire. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
