JESSUP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) An old popular playground will soon be new again.
Kids Korner is going from wood to plastic. The playground in the borough was built by the community in the ’90’s.
It was designed by children in 1993. Once the drawing were stamped for approval the community built it in one week.
Nealy 200 people helped, “it was one of the most wonderful experience I have ever been a part of,” said Ann Cappellini of Olyphant.
Jillian Hanson brings her children to the playground often. “We go to all th playgrounds in the area and this is my kids favorite one and they don’t care that it’s old and wooden,” said Hanson.
Family of St. George is spearheading a new all plastic playground. It will be inclusive for all abilities and will include all that you would expect. The ground will be rubber, solar lights for security, a fence and more. Organizers tell Eyewitness News it will cost $750,000 and that they have already raised more than $600,000 through state grant, borough contribution and private funds.
A public fundraising effort will start soon to raise the remaining amount. The new playground is expected to in place by the end of the year.
