Second Frat Brother Enters Guilty Plea

News

(WBRE/WYOU-TV)  UPDATE: 22-year-old Joseph Ems, Junior pleaded guilty to misdemeanor hazing and furnishing alcohol to minor charges Wednesday.
He was originally facing reckless endangerment charges.
Investigators say he threw a shoe at 19-year-old Timothy Piazza after he had fallen down a flight of steps during a night of drinking at the Beta Theta Pi house.
Piazza later died from severe head and abdominal injuries.
In Ems’ guilty plea — there was no mention of any crimes related to Piazza’s death.
Instead, his current charges stem from his giving another pledge of a bottle of vodka and tilting it up while he drank it.

Ems will be sentenced in September,.

A second Penn State fraternity member is expected to enter a guilty plea on Wednesday.
22-year-old Joseph Ems Junior is charged with one count of hazing and one count of unlawful acts relative to liquor.
Prosecutors allege Ems forced alcohol on a  Beta Theta Pledge.
They say it happened the same night and the same event Timothy Piazza fell and died, but he’s not accused of having a role in Piazza’s death.
The guilty plea comes just a week after Scranton native Ryan Burke plead guilty and was sentenced to three months house arrest.
