FALLS TOWNSHIP , WYOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Search crews spent the day working in dry suits, looking for 24-year old Haley Lorenzen’s body in the frigid waters of the Susquehanna River.

Investigators say her boyfriend; 31-year old Phillip Walters of Mill City threw her body off a bridge near Tunkhannock after he killed her and tied a bag of rocks to her body.

In their second day of searching, Winola Fire Chief Geme Dziak said crews were faced with icy cold waters that made the search process even more difficult.”

“We’re up against the wall right now because of the weather. It is pretty simple. Running boats in ice doesn’t work real well.”

He says 3 dive teams were on the water using sonar to search the river bottom for Lorenzen’s body. He says ice chunks in the water and the fast-moving water makes the search challenging.

“The airboat didn’t have any problems going over the ice. Some of the smaller boats, you had to be extremely careful that you didn’t flip one…when you look at the ice chunks going down you can see how fast that river is moving.”

Lorenzen moved from Oregon to Falls Township last year which is where Phillips lives. He reported her missing on New Year’s Eve day.

Dziak says they are making great efforts to recover Lorenzen’s body.

“I’ve been around this business a long time and the efforts that are being put to try and get an outcome here is just tremendous”

Phillip Walters was arrested Wednesday and is charged with criminal homicide. He is being held without bail and faces a hearing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
