Scranton Fire Crews Battle Flames in Frigid Temperatures

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY – (WBRE/WYOU) Fire crews battled flames at a home in Scranton tonight in frigid temperatures.
Firefighters were called to the home on Stafford Avenue around 6.
Crews initially went inside to get the fire under control, but the flames spread, and they had to battle the fire from the exterior.
Nearly 30 firefighters were working to put out the two-alarm fire in below freezing temperatures.
According to the assistant fire chief, two people were able to escape.

“Everything is working against us today. Obviously it’s brutal, brutal, weather conditions, so it makes it that much more difficult to do what is already a difficult job,” said Scranton Assistant Fire Chief, Jim Floryshak.

The cold weather presented several challenges for the first responders.
That fire is under investigation tonight in Lackawanna County.
