NORTH MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Authorities are attributing this week’s violent weather to a fatal traffic accident Monday night in Schuylkill County.
Pennsylvania State Police say 54 year old Franklin Ruch of Lehighton was killed on impact in a two vehicle collision.
The accident happened about seven p.m. at the intersection of Summer Valley Road and Center Turnpike in North Manheim Township.
The traffic signals at the intersection of these roads weren’t function, says the PSP, due to recent weather conditions and a loss of power to the signals.
Both units entered the intersection at the same time with another vehicle striking Ruch’s vehicle which became airborne then landed atop the center barrier.
The driver of the other vehicle wasn’t seriously injured.
