Salute to Veterans ride in Scranton

News

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) Hundreds of motorcyclists revved their engines to support a cause.

‘Rolling Thunder Pennsylvania Chapter 3’ held its annual salute to veterans ride.

Rolling Thunder is a veteran’s advocacy group.

The motorcyclists set off from the Gino J. Merli veteran’s center.

The event benefits the center’s resident welfare fund.

For many riders this is a personal mission.

“I am a veteran of Vietnam and a lot of these guys in here they don’t have a lot of family and friends that come in and visit them I think everything we do to help them is important,” said Augie Barghit of Scranton.

   Last year, 700 bikers participated.

This year, organizers say they saw fewer riders because of the early morning rain.
