EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — When Vietnam Veterans came home from war, many were not welcomed with open arms. As years have gone by, some veterans in Monroe County have found their voice to share their experience in time for the upcoming Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day.
Stories hidden away for so long are now being brought to light at the Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center as veterans are writing and sharing their experiences to heal the pains of the past.
“Vietnam Veterans sort of went into a closet and didn’t let people know that you were a Vietnam vet,” Jim Sargent of Vietnam Veterans of America Pocono Chapter said. “When doing that, all these feelings that you were keeping in. You were now able to release.”
The stories of these veterans can be heard at the Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center on Sunday at 7pm. The event is free to the public.
