Record Store Day Brings Back Rock and Roll Memories

(WBRE/WYOU-TV) More than 500 new releases are scheduled to hit Record Stores Saturday, April 13 For annual Record Store Day. For a local music man songs he and his bandmates recorded in the 1960s are about to be reissued for the special day.

Photojournalist Joseph Butash visits the Gallery of Sound in Wilkes-Barre Township for a little music chat with the one and only Joe Nardone.

”I’m part of the Vinyl Record Store day which is very very exciting” Exclaimed Joe Nardone, of Joe Nardone’s All Stars and Owner of Gallery of Sound.

He told our Joseph Butash about his “Rock and Roll” career.

“First rock & roll band at the Catholic Youth Center and that was really the first, and then we went on to some other bigger ballrooms. But it started in Wilkes-Barre. I took one of the guys from high school and formed the All-Stars and picked up a guitar player from Meyers (High School) and another guy from another school. We were playing at Sans Souci Park and we’d bring in an artist that had records. So through that connection and me being in the record business. I knew some people and I kept knocking on doors until finally, somebody answered the door. We were a “Pick Hit of the Week”. It went to number one on WARM radio (590am). And it made us very popular in the area.

His son Joe Junior is releasing his dad’s recordings for Record Store Day.

“It was a big surprise. My son decided that he should put out a record, a vinyl record of four of our records that we made. So it’s all on one record. It’s coming in red vinyl. And a big surprise. I wasn’t ready for this at all! It just leaves it to me. Don’t ever be ashamed. We play a dance once a year, a reunion dance. Everybody out in the dance floor, it’s like five hundred people, they’re shaking-going shake a hand-shake a hand, and it’s really a lot of fun. It worked out really good”.

The new vinyl release Joe Nardone’s Allstars 7 inch 45rpm red vinyl – the record will be available at both the Wilkes-Barre Township and Dickson City Gallery of Sound stores beginning tomorrow (Saturday, April 13)  at 8 am!

There will also be live musical acts.. Throughout the day.   Learn More about the Gallery of Sound
