(WBRE/WYOU-TV) Hunters hit the woods on Saturday for the start of rifle season for black bears– and after a day off they were back at it today.
Eyewitness News caught up with some hunters at the weigh station in Coolbaugh Township this morning. Only one bear was brought in before noon however, Saturday was a more average day with about 30 bears brought in. Both hunters and the game warden say the deep snow in the Pocono Area may actually be hindering hunters.
Ryan Gildea, Land Management and Group Supervisor, Game Warden told us “2 to 3-inch snowfall is good! 10 inches maybe a little more difficult for hunters”.
“They’re few and far between, they are hard to get. They’re smart animals, not as many as compared to deer“ said Rick Weizenecker, Hunter.
The bear season ends on Wednesday but there is an extended season during deer season so hopefully, the weather will help out the hunters.
