SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY – (WBRE/WYOU) March is a big month for Irish heritage in Lackawanna County, and the annual flag raising by the Irish Cultural Society and the Ancient Order of Hibernians is part of that rich tradition.
The Irish flag was raised in front of the Lackawanna County courthouse on Washington Avenue in Scranton.
The event featured speakers from various organizations and traditional Irish activities.
Organizers say the event is a great way to honor those who made sacrifices.
“They went down in the mines, and they worked really hard. They built churches and raised families. They fought wars, and they gave so much back to our area, so it’s a great day to celebrate,” said Lackawanna County Commissioner Patrick O’Malley.
The event was open to the public this afternoon in Lackawanna County.
