Railriders home opener is only hours away

MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Get ready to play ball. We’re just a few hours away from the 2019 home opener of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders at PNC Field in Moosic.

“Opening night is your first chance. It’s that first impression, your first look at your new team,” Adam Marco, Director of Marketing & Media for the Railriders said.

While every season is special, the Railriders are rolling out the red carpet this year for its fans to celebrate their 30th Anniversary Season.

“Opened up on April 26th, 1989,” Marco explained. “So it’s an opportunity to look back at the first 18 years of the Philadelphia Phillies affiliated era. And look at the last 12 now plus seasons of New York Yankees baseball.”

While baseball is synonymous with peanuts and Cracker Jacks, the menu at PNC Field has received an upgrade this season that’s sure to have you reaching for some of their new offerings. This year they’ve added a variety of fries, chicken tenders, and fried pierogies. They’ll also be introducing some new hot dog options including the Mac and Cheese Dog, New York Street Cart Dog, and the Brauhaus Dog. And to finish it off, you can now indulge in a Yuengling Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich.

Aside from the food upgrades, the team will style some vibrant new jerseys this season as a part of a new initiative to expand their fan base. For six games beginning on June 9th, the team is going to re-brand itself as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Vejigantes.

There’s nothing like the excitement of a home opener, and you can catch first pitch of the Railriders game tonight at 7:05 pm at PNC Field.
