NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) Some tense moments today following a standoff in Luzerne County.

According to police, a man barricaded himself inside a home in Nanticoke.

It happened around 1 PM on Honey Pot Street.

Police say Richard Simon, 33, threatened to shoot his wife but told her if she called police, he would shoot them as well.

Eventually she was able to escape to a neighbor’s house and was able to call police.

Officials were able to communicate with Simmons and resolve the situation peacefully.

“They are conducting the investigation now, to see if he has a prior record,” said Chief Thomas Wall, Nanticoke police.

“Scared, because I have a daughter, and my mom, they have kids here that go outside and play and you never know what might happen,” said Sarah Panetta, neighbor.

The standoff lasted just under an hour.

    Charges against Simmons are pending.
