Police Investigation Closes A Hazleton Area School

Police and Forensic teams were on the scene at a house on Manhattan Court all day Thursday. 

Neighbors tell Eyewitness News Police had been in the area since very early this morning — and the heavy police presence stayed throughout the day.


Officers cordoned off Manhattan Court and 10th Street . The roads surrounding a home of interest across the street from the school known in the Hazleton area as the Castle.
Students were told not to come to school today around 6 this morning, but not everyone got the message.
Teachers and staff were told to report directly to the administrator’s office.
 

Butler Township Police are handling the investigation near the Castle — and are also investigating another home a few miles away, in Drums.
The home is that  of Samuel Vacante — a 52 year old man from Drums, who has been missing since Tuesday. Police believe he may be injured or endangered.
His home off Coventry Road in Young estates is also being investigated by a state police forensic team.
They tell Eyewitness News they are merely assisting Butler Township with that investigation as well.
